Applying tip: many AFMC titles carry the words “Direct Hire Authority”. Under direct hire the Air Force can select without the usual rating and ranking of candidates, and veterans’ preference does not apply, although you must still meet the qualification requirements in the announcement. Our AFMC guide covers the command in more depth, and the veterans’ preference guide explains where preference does and does not count.
