Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process, influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team, and executes position responsibilities that demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches, and systematically evaluates current practice.
Duties
Demonstrates the following core informatics functions to include content management, application support, health information technology system optimization, enterprise data management, business architecture management, partnership management, requirements management, and change management. Supports nursing infrastructure and equipment to include staffing applications, drug, & supply delivery systems, etc. The Nurse Informaticist Registered Nurse (RN) exercises leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of hardware and software applications. Supports and troubleshoots the electronic health record (EHR) and associated programs/applications. The lnformaticist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. They work closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. The lnformaticist is responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility, Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN), or Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO), illustrating performance and leadership that benefit the facility. Collaborates with education and affiliated programs to advance nursing knowledge related technology and nursing applications, and develops shared documents for communication systems for nursing practices. PRACTICE: Demonstrates expertise in professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Expectations: Applies advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Develops recommendations and strategies to address and resolve complex issues and problems, providing direction for all key stakeholders. Establishes formal and informal consultative relationships that can also provide professional development and mentorship opportunities. VETERAN/PATIENT DRIVEN CARE: Leads initiatives to improve Veteran/patient experience, satisfaction and/or safety beyond the immediate practice setting. Expectations: Leads initiatives to improve the Veteran experience i.e., care coordination, timeliness to resolve issues, negative trends, or environment of care concerns, beyond the immediate practice setting. Demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy by protecting the health, safety, and rights of patient population groups beyond the immediate practice setting. Leads staff to identify, analyze and address ethical issues that impact patients, caregivers and staff beyond the immediate practice setting. LEADERSHIP: Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team, at the expert level, with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Expectations: Excels in making appropriate judgements. Demonstrates integrity in the workplace and facilitates formal and informal mentoring opportunities to develop current and future leaders beyond the immediate practice setting. Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams that utilize critical thinking to improve nursing practice beyond the immediate practice setting. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Enhances knowledge base and practice evaluation, at the expert level, with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Expectations: Accountable for personal and professional career goals with outcomes that have an impact beyond the immediate practice setting. Guides the professional growth of self and others beyond the immediate practice setting. Requirements
