Archeology

5 open positions in this category

Federal archeologists in the 0193 series identify, evaluate and protect archeological sites on public lands and in the path of federal projects. Much of the work is compliance under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act: surveying project areas, consulting with tribes and state historic preservation offices, writing reports and managing collections, with fieldwork and excavation when a site cannot be avoided.

Recent listings have included archeologists at the National Park Service, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, United States Army Installation Management Command, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Western Area Power Administration, along with a supervisory interdisciplinary position.

Applying tip: 0193 has a positive education requirement, a degree in archeology or anthropology with an archeological concentration or equivalent coursework, including field school, so attach transcripts and spell out your field and laboratory experience, the regions and periods you have worked in and your consultation experience with tribes and preservation offices. The federal resume guide explains how to present academic work in the federal format.
