Office of the Solicitor
8 remote or telework-eligible positions · federal agency
The Office of the Solicitor is the Department of the Interior’s legal office. The Solicitor is the department’s chief legal officer, and the office’s attorneys advise the Secretary and the bureaus, from the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management to the Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, on public lands, water, wildlife, energy, Indian affairs and ethics law, and work with the Department of Justice on litigation. It is organized into headquarters divisions and regional solicitor offices around the country.
Recent listings have included attorney-advisors, a regional solicitor for the Intermountain region and a principal deputy director of the Departmental Ethics Office.
Applying tip: attorney positions are in the excepted service and require a J.D. and active bar membership in a US jurisdiction, and the office looks for experience in the subject areas its bureaus generate, so natural resources, environmental, water, Indian law or federal ethics experience should lead the resume. State your bar admissions and dates plainly. The legal jobs guide explains how federal attorney hiring works, and the clearance guide covers background investigations.
