Summary
About the Position: As a geographer in this position you will apply your extensive knowledge and experience with geographic, cartographic, and land surveying practices and methodology for the creation and analysis of GIS databases.
Duties
Serve as the District GIS expert, utilizing advanced computer technology, software, and evolving procedures to independently develop GIS products in coordination with engineers and scientists.
Plan and implement digital mapping projects (raster and vector) in remote sensing, photogrammetry, hydrography, topography, and land surveying.
Develop and analyze geo-referenced databases to interpret complex variables and evaluate the adequacy of external spatial data for District projects.
Represent the GIS, Mapping, and CADD section on project teams, analyzing civil works data (such as flood control and environmental restoration) while ensuring compliance with Corps-wide GIS standards.
Prepare and review technical specifications, GIS provisions, and cost estimates for Architect-Engineer (A-E) contracts.
Lead technical evaluations of A-E contractors to verify their professional capabilities and equipment meet project requirements.
Perform quality assurance reviews on final contractor deliverables to ensure strict compliance with contract requirements.
