The Library of Congress Internships (LOCI) program is a seasonal, 10- or 12-week paid internship program that enables undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience through applied learning and professional development opportunities that advance the academic and career pursuits of participants.

Duties

The position description number for this position is 465642. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. The Spring 2027 session of the Library of Congress Internships Program include options for virtual, remote project work. Interns hired under this announcement will be expected to conduct work from their home location. This program offers undergraduate, graduate students and recent graduates insight into the environment and culture of the world's largest and most comprehensive repository of human knowledge. Interns will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: copyright, preservation, reference, access standards, and information management. Near the end of their appointments at the Library, the interns join together to present their accomplishments and share their insights on the impact of their work. The assignments will span many professional fields at the Library, including collections support, communications, event planning, human capital, information technology, and research. Interns work with Library staff on mission-critical projects that utilize the interns' existing skills. Interns are exposed to additional opportunities to expand their skills through special assignments, professional development training and workshops, mentoring, and other enrichment activities. Interns participate in a wide range of projects offered across the Library of Congress that are designed to challenge and strengthen the skills of emerging professionals and fulfill the mission and vision of the Library of Congress. Requirements

All projects require basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. MUST be a U.S. citizen. Permanent residents are ineligible for consideration. MUST be a U.S. Citizen currently enrolled at time of application in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution of higher learning (community college, college, university, or tribal college) at the undergraduate level or graduate level, OR have graduated or will graduate between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026. MUST be a first- time participant in the Library of Congress Internships Program. MUST be located in the U.S. or its territories for the entire duration of the internship. MUST be available to work Monday – Friday (dependent upon project assignment) during the Library's core business hours of 6:30 am – 6:00 pm Eastern Time. MUST be available to attend mandatory orientation on Monday, February 8, 2027. NO EXCEPTIONS. Notice: Library of Congress employees are prohibited from using illegal drugs, including marijuana. Education

MUST be a U.S. Citizen currently enrolled at time of application in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution of higher learning (community college, college, university, or tribal college) at the undergraduate level or graduate level, OR have graduated or will graduate between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026. NOTE: Your transcripts and/or registrar certification of enrollment documents are required in order to verify your eligibility for consideration. Failure to provide this documentation in your application will result in disqualification. Certifications via Clearinghouse are acceptable to verify enrollment. REQUIRED: A legible copy of your latest college/university transcripts OR official registrar documentation certifying enrollment in fall 2026.** Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application. Official transcripts will be required if selected for the position. Transcripts must be issued by the college or university, and must include your name, the name of the institution, and the courses and course dates. Failure to submit the required legible documentation at the time of application will result in disqualification. All transcripts and/or registrar documents must be in PDF file format. How you will be evaluated

Eligible application packages will be forwarded to selecting officials in the Library who will arrange telephone interviews with promising applicants, based on the application package and desired skills. Note: application referral to a selecting official does not guarantee an interview. Additionally, applicants must complete the applicant questionnaire and an interview. Applicants may also be screened for some jobs through licensing, certification, and/or education requirements, a narrative/application review, and/or a preliminary telephone interview. Selecting projects listed in the applicant questionnaire that are relevant to an applicant's experience is critical to being considered for a position.
