Social Insurance Administration
4 open positions in this category
The 0105 series is the Social Security Administration’s claims specialist occupation. Claims specialists in SSA field offices interview people applying for retirement, survivors and disability benefits and Supplemental Security Income, develop and adjudicate their claims under the Social Security Act, explain decisions and resolve post-entitlement problems such as overpayments and changes in circumstances. It is the agency’s core public-contact job, with positions in field offices across the country.
Recent listings have included field office claims specialists, a bilingual Spanish and English claims specialist, and a temporary social insurance specialist position open under ICTAP.
Applying tip: SSA claims specialist announcements are experience or education based, with a bachelor’s degree able to qualify at the entry grade, and bilingual positions test language proficiency; ICTAP in a title means the announcement is open to displaced federal employees under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan. New hires go through months of formal training before working claims on their own. The entry-level guide explains how degree-based qualification works.
