Physician Assistant
14 open positions in this category
Physician assistants (PAs) are licensed clinicians who examine, diagnose and treat patients, prescribe medication and assist in surgery in collaboration with physicians. The Veterans Health Administration is the main federal employer, placing PAs in primary care, specialty clinics, surgery and geriatrics, and it appoints them under Title 38, the VA’s own health care personnel system. The two Department of Homeland Security positions come from the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC), which provides medical care in immigration detention facilities.
Recent listings have included physician assistants in primary care, some with a recruitment incentive, a physician assistant in geriatrics and extended care, physician assistant III positions including a clinical operations chief, and IHSC positions posted as O-5 and O-6 billets: a field medical coordinator and a special operations unit section chief.
Applying tip: VA requires graduation from an accredited PA program and NCCPA certification, and it uses its own grade levels rather than GS grades, so the “III” in a title is a VA grade. O-5 and O-6 billets refer to U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps ranks; check the “This job is open to” section to see who can apply.
