Park Ranger
9 open positions in this category
Park rangers in the 0025 series work in two broad tracks: interpretation, which covers visitor programs, education and visitor center operations, and protection, which is law enforcement, emergency response and resource protection. Park managers, the superintendents and deputy superintendents who run individual parks, are classified in the same series. Most positions are with the National Park Service, with others at national wildlife refuges under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Recent listings have included park rangers and park rangers in interpretation, supervisory park rangers in interpretation, a deputy chief ranger and a chief ranger on the protection side, and park managers at the superintendent and deputy superintendent level.
Applying tip: this is site-based work, so treat any telework flag as covering the administrative part of a manager’s week and read the duty station first. Protection positions require a federal law enforcement commission with the medical, fitness and training conditions that go with it, so confirm you meet them before applying. Our federal resume guide covers how to present interpretive, protection and management experience in the federal format.
