18 open positions in this category
The 0601 series, General Health Science, is the catch-all series for professional health science work that does not fit a more specific series: epidemiology, health research and informatics, environmental health, rehabilitation specialties and program management of scientific work. It appears across the Department of Health and Human Services, mainly the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health, as well as the Veterans Health Administration and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Recent listings have included epidemiologists, health scientists including one in informatics, a supervisory health scientist branch chief, an environmental health scientist, blind rehabilitation outpatient specialists, a therapeutic medical physicist, a registered respiratory therapist, a research health science specialist, a technology transfer and patent specialist, and senior roles such as a deputy center director.
Applying tip: because the series is so broad, the basic requirement is set by the announcement, usually a degree in a named field plus experience in the specific discipline, so treat each posting as its own occupation. Our federal resume guide explains how to present research and clinical experience in the format reviewers expect.
