OPM series 0570. Examine banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions to assess their soundness and compliance with laws and regulations.
Examiners in 0570 review capital, asset quality, management, earnings, liquidity and risk management, and write the examination reports that drive corrective action. The series is concentrated in the bank regulators: the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency within the Treasury Department and the Farm Credit Administration.
Recent listings have included FDIC examiners in information technology, compliance and large financial institutions and examination specialists in capital markets policy and emerging technology, OCC national bank examiners with emphasis in retail credit and asset management, large bank field examiners, examiners-in-charge and analysts to senior officials, and an associate examiner at the Farm Credit Administration.
Applying tip: these agencies pay under their own systems rather than the GS scale, which is why titles carry CG and NB grades, and most examiner jobs involve regular travel to the institutions examined. Commissioned examiner status is earned through each agency’s own training program. The GS pay scale guide explains how to compare these pay systems.
