Western Area Power Administration
10 remote or telework-eligible positions · federal agency
The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) is one of the Department of Energy’s four power marketing administrations. It markets and delivers hydroelectric power generated at federal dams, most of them operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Army Corps of Engineers, to utilities, cooperatives, tribes and other wholesale customers across the central and western states, and it owns and maintains the high-voltage transmission lines and substations that carry the power. Headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, it operates through regional offices in the West and Midwest.
Recent listings have included interdisciplinary civil, mechanical and electrical engineers, an electrical engineer and an electronics engineer, an IT specialist in networking, a public utilities specialist in contracts and energy services, an accountant, an archeologist and a supervisory helicopter pilot.
Applying tip: engineering positions carry the 0800 series education requirement, a professional engineering degree or an approved alternative such as a PE license or the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and WAPA is a utility, so experience with transmission, substations, protection or power markets counts for more than generic engineering. The engineering guide explains how federal engineering announcements are rated.
