The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) is the Department of Homeland Security component that trains law enforcement officers and agents for most federal agencies, as well as state, local, tribal and international partners. Its main campus is in Glynco, Georgia, with additional centers in Artesia, New Mexico, Charleston, South Carolina, and Cheltenham, Maryland. Instructors are usually experienced federal officers and agents, but the centers also employ IT, facilities, training-program and trades staff, including the marine mechanics who maintain the boats used in maritime training.
Recent listings have included a supervisory law enforcement specialist in instruction, law enforcement specialists serving as technical investigations and computer forensics instructors, an information security IT specialist, a Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) program manager, a facility capital planning specialist, a marine machinery mechanic and a marine machinery repairer.
Applying tip: instructor announcements require substantial prior law enforcement or investigative experience in the subject taught and rate teaching ability, so describe both the cases you worked and any training you have delivered. Most of these roles are tied to a training center, so check the duty location and the telework terms before you apply. The application timeline guide explains the stages after submission.
