Summary
The Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor will be part of the Mental Health Service at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center and will play a therapist role in the context of the Mental Health Clinic's Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Team in the provision of specialty outpatient care to Veterans. This position will be located at the Wilmington Clinic Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to: Practice at an advanced practice level in the Specialty Mental Health Clinic setting, functioning as a member of a multi-disciplinary team providing comprehensive case management, psychotherapy, and other mental health services. Complete full biopsychosocial assessments for clients entering care and establish treatment plans in collaboration with the client, their family, and the treatment team. Assess and treat the complicated psychosocial problems of Veterans with a wide range of mental health diagnoses and conditions. Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Participate in scheduling, triaging, and monitoring the flow of patients in the MHC and assisting with admissions of MHC patients to inpatient psychiatry unit when indicated. Independently work with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems utilizing individual, group and family counseling and therapy skills. Contribute to interdisciplinary care planning conferences, BHIP huddles and Team Meetings. Adhere to Trauma Informed Care principles assuming the existence of a trauma history along with resilience. Interface with other departments and provide consultation services to medical center and CBOC staff on a wide variety of patient care issues, particularly related to identifying mental health concerns and social determinant needs of Veterans from all eras of service.
