Summary

The Physician Assistant will be assigned to the General Surgery Section at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL. Incumbent provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of General Surgery. The PA will function under the directives and within the established guidelines of the Veteran Administration's (VA's) Utilization of Physician Assistants. The PA will work and learn alongside General surgeons who performs the full spectrum of surgical care.

Duties

The Physician Assistant, Plastic Surgeon, will be assigned to the Surgery Section at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL. The Surgical Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic mid-level Physician Assistant (PA). Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. Incumbent provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Surgery. The PA will function under the directives and within the established guidelines of the Veteran Administration's (V A's) Utilization of Physician Assistants. The PA will work and learn alongside surgeons who performs the full spectrum of surgical care. The candidates will have experience in complex wound reconstruction, spinal cord injury care, pressure injury surgery, breast reconstruction, hand surgery, resident education, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation should be given strong preference. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Operative Experience Experience as a first assist in the operating room. Familiarity with skin grafting, local and regional flaps, complex wound closure, scar revision, debridement procedures, incision and drainage procedures, minor office-based surgical procedures, and perioperative patient management. Wound Care Experience evaluating and treating acute and chronic wounds. Pressure injury prevention and management. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (VAC) management. Advanced dressings and postoperative wound assessment. Procedural Skills Punch and shave biopsies. Excision of skin lesions. Suture and staple removal. Seroma and hematoma aspiration. Drain management and removal. Inpatient Care Daily postoperative rounds. Discharge planning. Coordination with rehabilitation services. Management of postoperative complications. Consultation services. Teaching Experience educating patients and families. Teaching residents, PA students, or medical students. Participation in multidisciplinary conferences. Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
