Summary
This position is based within the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services, Field Operations, Logistics Center, National Veterinary Stockpile Program (NVSP). The role encompasses a range of responsibilities including maintaining, repairing, and modifying various types of hydraulic equipment and motor vehicles, both gasoline and diesel powered in support of the Logistics Center NVSP.
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Performs repairs and maintenance on heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles such as: trucks/trailers, power generation, material handling equipment, agricultural equipment, and others.
Diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, test gauges to determine the exact nature or extent of repairs or adjustments necessary to complete work.
Makes adjustments, tests, and reinstalls systems/subsystems in vehicles and equipment.
Performs body repair and corrosion control, refinishes, and repaints surfaces as required.
Performs repairs and troubleshooting on interrelated systems, composed of individual subsystems.
Assists in review and updating maintenance technical orders, shop operating instructions, directives.
Maintains compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products within the functional area.
Inspects general condition of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles to determine overall vehicle condition, cause of malfunction or need for repair.
Conducts site visit/inspections to make sure newly acquired/redistributed equipment is managed properly and is in usable condition.

This position does not have an education qualification requirement.
