Duties
The Director, Infrastructure & Operations Services serves as a senior executive responsible for the strategic direction, governance, and performance of the FAA's enterprise IT infrastructure. The Director ensures continuity, reliability, scalability, and security of mission-critical IT services supporting more than 50,000 users across 1,000+ FAA facilities. The Director provides executive oversight for the FAA's operational IT environments, including the National Airspace System (NAS) network, Research & Development and Mission Support networks, on-premises datacenters, national co-location facilities, and the FAA's cloud ecosystem. The role includes stewardship of more than 80,000 IT assets essential to aviation safety and enterprise operations. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Officer, the Director collaborates with senior leaders across the FAA, DOT, and partner agencies to advance modernization, strengthen resilience, and align infrastructure capabilities with national aviation priorities. The Director manages an annual budget exceeding $20 million and leads a workforce of more than 115 personnel, including subordinate managers and senior technical experts. The Director leads a 24x7x365 operational enterprise, ensuring rapid response to critical incidents and operational disruptions. The position requires expert knowledge of federal IT policies, enterprise operational frameworks, and performance metrics, along with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and lead integrated IT management strategies. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Provides executive direction for FAA technology and infrastructure networks, ensuring integrity, resilience, and operational continuity. Leads enterprise efforts to protect critical systems and rapidly restore operations following outages or cyber events. Ensures delivery of effective, efficient, and secure 24x7x365 back-end IT services that support reliable, scalable, and high-performing infrastructure. Serves as principal advisor to the FAA CIO and Deputy CIO on operational effectiveness, technical integrity, and strategic direction of enterprise IT infrastructure. Provides executive leadership for AIT's enterprise architecture and engineering organizations and oversees the FAA's Enterprise Operations Center. Leads IT service delivery programs, including change and configuration management, deployment services, and resource management across network, hardware, and software environments. Oversees network operations, Trusted Internet Connections, authentication services, network performance, account provisioning, and identity/access governance. Directs cloud and hosting services, including management of the FAA Cloud Services enterprise contract and operational oversight of cloud and on premises hosting environments. Leads enterprise IT product and service management, including productivity tools, endpoint lifecycle management, and oversight of client computing devices and mobile technologies.
