Most year-round employees live in or near the town of Mariposa and commute approximately one hour to the park headquarters in El Portal. Vanpools and public transit subsidies are available to help support daily commuting. Mariposa and El Portal get a few days of snow throughout the winter, and summer temperatures frequently exceed 100 degrees. Natural disasters including fire and rockslides can affect access and daily operations, but they also foster a strong culture of teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving. Despite these challenges, Yosemite offers a uniquely rewarding professional environment where staff demonstrate their dedication to the National Park Service mission on a daily basis.
